What good is a spade?
I used to use spade bits but bow I only use auger. I can't really see a use for spades other than a smaller chuck and use on a wireless drill. Am I missing something? Is there a more apropos place for them?
I think you are referring to a spade bit for wood boring. Also called a paddle bit. the only real advantage is they are relatively inexpensive, and take less power to turn than an auger bit. Auger bit's because of their aggressive cutting tend to tear out the hole, so a good sharp spade bit will leave a smoother hole, but not as smooth as a forstner bit. You can buy a whole set of spade bit's for the price of one auger bit. also, spade bits are easy to sharpen with just a file.
