Should I purchase a Bosch 4100-09 or Rigid R4511 table saw?
The Bosch is portable but very good quailty along with being portable. The Rigid has a granite table top which is nice, but home depot is too lazy to set one up for me to take a look at the fence system. Any ideas?
I understand one is portable and the other isn't, I've just not been happy with the fence system on most stationary units, I am trying to find a home depot with one setup. But they are not wanting to pay people to set them up in this slow market. The old cast rigids are all sold out in Middle Tennessee. I think I may be able to find a delta cast iron without a fence then buy one to add on, any thoughts about that?
If portability is of prime importance (moving from job site to job site). get the Bosch. But be warned, portables tend to make poorer quality cuts as compared to contractor/hybrid saws because of the emphasis on lighter weight (more blade scoring along the cut).
If the saw is going to be used at home, by all means get the Rigid. You'll have a wider and deeper table to work on, and reports say that the granite top is ruler flat. Also, the blade trunnion is cabinet mounted, making blade to miter slot adjustments easier.
Wood Magazine reviewed various portable and contractor saws and gave the nod to the Rigid portable over the Bosch. They also picked the older Rigid contractor saw (since replaced at HD by the R4511) as top pick for contractor saws.
